TROY REDFERN Goes Strange

To jump-start the New Year with a whiz-bang banger, TROY REDFERN has released a new single, ‘The Strange‘ out today, 4th January 2024.

The Strange is about the realisation that a relationship is falling apart in slow motion.
Despite how difficult it may seem to break away, it’s about the sense that life is slipping by is an
ever-present feeling.

The number comes from his forthcoming album “Invocation” to be released 17th May 2024 and for which he wrote a number of excellent new songs that define his unique style as one of the most exciting blues artists in Britain.

The piece is cohesively held together by the musician’s special brand of whip-stitching guitarcraft…

For the project, Troy headed to the west Wales coast with his trusty 1929 National Triolian resonator guitar for a week of reclusion in a remote sheepherder’s hut scribbling the first ideas for a bunch of peronal songs for his new record.

It was important for me to really clear my mind of all distractions so I could really focus on what I
wanted to write on this album and the direction I wanted to take it in
.” says Troy.

I tried some unorthodox approaches to song writing that included meditation where I would
imagine hearing a song in my mind, as complete as possible including visualising the performance
live. Next, I would pick up the guitar and capture the idea on my phone
.”

The giddily surging slide sequence on “The Strange” evokes the glam era of the 1970s, but there is also more than a hint of vintage lemony ferruginated blues. The piece is cohesively held together by the musician’s special brand of whip-stitching guitarcraft. Therefore, it’s an audacious musical statement that arrives super-packed with powerful, impulsive textures and enduring melody lines. Yep, this has incredible dynamism!
